About My Approach
What is Integrative Therapy?
Integrative psychotherapy is a blended approach taking elements from different types of therapy. This allows for much more flexibility in the way we would work together, giving me the ability to be adaptable to your needs and draw on whatever theoretical approach is appropriate to you in the moment. Whilst I am able to offer a very diverse range of therapeutic approaches, the core elements of how I practice are made up of a combination of the following modalities:
Person Centred Therapy
Person Centred Therapy (PCT) is a holistic approach which works on the assumption that all individuals have an internal natural drive toward well being and healing if given the right set of circumstances. Through this approach I would seek to gain an understanding of your perception and help you to explore how you view the world, focusing on the elements of your life that are important to you.
It is my aim to offer you a completely non-judgemental and accepting environment, whilst helping you to speak freely about your innermost thoughts in a safe space with the freedom for you to chose the direction that our sessions will take.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a modality focusing on the concept of learnt behaviour and thinking patterns. Having taken some time to get to know each other we would begin to examine your thoughts around various issues within your life. This particular approach is interactive for you as it will involve you taking an active role in reflecting on how your situation looks, and any changes that you would like to see happen. We would then work together to support you in finding ways of implementing the changes you would like to see, and develop new approaches to the challenges in your life.
Attachment
Attachment Theory (AT) is focused around relationships with others, with particular emphasis on early years and relationships with primary caregivers. This theory states that these initial early relationships create a blueprint for how we view and interact with the world. This relates strongly to CBT as this blueprint create cognitive pathways, and thinking patterns that provide us with assumptions on how the world works. By examining these relationships we would seek to understand how they might be playing out in your present and what impact they are having.
These are only an idea of the therapeutic toolbox that I work with. It is my priority to put you at the forefront of everything that we do and as a result we will only work with whatever you want to bring into our sessions. All of the modalities I work with are evidence based, and I am happy to answer any questions regarding them if you are uncertain about any of them.
